Summer Breeze

What do Charlize Theron, Antonio Banderas, and Madonna have in common? Yup, they’re all celebrities, but there is something else. They were all born in the month of August and August is the epitome of summer.

Summer is intoxicating and the summer sun rejuvenating! My husband, Bill, and I enjoy hiking and biking. They’re both fantastic ways to burn calories and to clear the mind of all of the hustle and bustle. And, great news, hiking trails can be found just about anywhere. It’s also exciting to forge your own trails, both literally and figuratively.

Summer brings everything water related, zoos and camping trips. What a sense of freedom laying on a sleeping bag and admiring the stars. I remember learning their names and locations as a child. Do you remember feeling a sense of accomplishment being the first one to find the Big Dipper? It might seem like a little feat now, but as a child it was everything. The world is magical for children. August also makes me think of barbecues and vacations.

How about the fresh fruits and vegetables of the season? Have you ever purchased produce from a little roadside stand? That is the absolute best! It’s just about as fresh as you can get. There’s nothing like biting into a cool piece of watermelon or a tomato on a hot summer’s day.

Speaking of watermelon and tomatoes, here’s a quick recipe marrying the two. I hope you enjoy it if you give it a try.

Watermelon and Tomato Salad

Ingredient List:

1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved

2 cups cubed and seeded watermelon

6 large basil leaves, thinly sliced

½ cup crumbled feta cheese

1 teaspoon lemon zest

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

1-1/2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar

Salt and pepper to taste

Place the tomatoes and watermelon into a mixing bowl. Sprinkle with the basil, feta cheese, and lemon zest. Drizzle with the olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Toss gently. Season to taste with salt and pepper before serving.

It doesn’t get any easier than that. Now ….. dig in!

Jewelry is ALWAYS in season and peridot is the birthstone of August. And even though my birthstone is amethyst, I’m sure you know by now my favorite color is green.

Happy birthday to all of you August babies!! Enjoy your special day and the beauty of August!

My birthday is Aug 3. My Daughter-in-Law’s is Aug 19. Daughter Aug 20, my Niece is Aug 22. A lot of Leos in my family. Leos rock. We gave my Niece Madalyn Amato the Possibilities Cuff in Peridot. She loved it! Tom & I celebrated with a 2 night stay at the Hyatt in Newport Beach and visited my old childhood hang out at Balboa Island. It was fantastic. As always spreading the Magic of Carolyn Pollack Wearable Art. I wear it well. Keep creating.
